HBOS closure, a disaster for all

Blue Leanie

The virtual closure of the iconic Blue Leanie by the part publically owned HBOS and Equitable life is a bitter blow for the hardworking and loyal staff who have had to endure much over the last few years, the loss of 800 jobs at the biggest private employer in the town is a blow to the economy of the town, and a real slap in the face to the tax payer who bailed out HBOS with even more cash than we had previously been told it was revealed today http://bit.ly/7F1yJl .

If you take away 800 people from the town center,  who would normally be working, buying, eating, enjoying themselves after work, going to our swanky new council taxpayer funded theatre, then there must be serious concerns for the future of the town, when you add in the increasing cost of parking in the town (prices set by AVDC Tories), competition from other towns with better shops, towns offering deals for companies to move in, better roads, better rail, better bus, you can see why companies and shops are not relocating to Aylesbury, Peacocks may recently have opened a small store, ASDA and Waitrose may eventually build stores but they cannot make up for the loss of 800 good quality well paid jobs.

So what is the future for Aylesbury, unless things change radically and the Tories actually start to put together schemes to bring in businesses the future looks like we will be even more of a dormitory town for MK, Oxford and London with traffic chaos in the peaks, and higher levels of unemployment, for the town to start to grow again we must have investment, we must have a raillink to Oxford, and MK, we need road improvements so that the towns communications can compete, look at the competition, MK next to the M1, Oxford M40 and A34, Aylesbury A41 duel carriageway to Aylesbury then single trunk road out.

My heart really goes out to all those at HBOS looking forward to a very uncertain Christmas, I really hope you manage to find work and I’m sure that there will be assistance to help you find work, if there is any way that I or the Liberal Democrats can help, then please get in touch.

Mark
